British luxury carmaker Rolls-Royce released the first teaser image of their new Wraith luxury coupe today. Set to make its public debut at the Geneva Motor Show in March, Rolls isn't announcing specifics at this point. But amidst their enigmatic descriptions of its "extraordinary power and dynamic promise," two tangible details stand out: it's named after the 1938 Rolls Royce Wraith, and more importantly, will be "most powerful Rolls-Royce in history."
While the original teaser was as shady and ethereal as the car's namesake, we maxed out the brightness and contrast, and found that the Rolls photo retouchers left the entire top half of the car uncensored. With a long, sloping hood, an equally curvy roofline, and a massive C-pillar, compared to the Ghost and Phantom the new Wraith appears to be more in-line with Bentley's Continental GT?an odd, but fascinating mix of ultra luxury and high performance.
Admittedly, the market for six-figure luxury cars is small?and for 5000-pound performance monsters even smaller?but it'll be interesting to see how Rolls-Royce incorporates horsepower and 0-60 times into their brand of understated opulence.
