Health insurance for pre existing conditions ? Article Directory

Having pre-existing conditions makes it nearly impossible to get medical insurance. Most insurance companies only wish to insure healthy individuals who do not have any pre-existing conditions and may even exclude an individual entirely if their conditions are persistent enough and far too expensive. Even for those that do not have chronic ailments, having these issues temporarily or a history of them can lead to much higher rates almost to the obscene. In the event of permanent disorders and diseases that require prescriptions and periodic medical treatment, traditional insurance may not be an option at all. Health insurance for pre existing conditions is certainly a hard thing to get for some people.

For younger children, their parent?s work insurance can often apply to them and cover the costs of their prescriptions and medical bills. This is immensely useful for children born with certain defects or who develop mental disorders such as schizophrenia or bipolar disorder early in life. Normally these issues would have disqualified them from having insurance. Also, employees cannot be disqualified from work insurance either based on their pre-existing conditions because work insurance is counted as group insurance, as it covers a group of people, in this case the business, and cannot exclude any member of the group.

Even when individual insurance is offered to someone with a pre existing condition, it may not include coverage for their condition and may cost them more based on the existing conditions anyway. It costs insurance companies more money to insure people who are actively sick and will remain so and so they are not willing to invest that money into these people. Many companies have claimed that if they could sell medical insurance to America as a whole, then they could cover everyone, including those with pre-existing conditions. This would be like a giant blanket group plan so that no one could be excluded.

There is a work around for these conditions. If you are self employed then you can establish yourself as a group of one and purchase health insurance under these circumstances. This would put you under your own group rates and therefore you could not be excluded from insurance, pre-existing condition or not. This is not always possible as some states do not allow for groups of one to be established and have a minimum of two individuals to qualify as a group for group coverage. In these instances it is possible to hire on anyone else for any purpose or cost and to qualify together.
