Advanced Pet Photography | ArticleEstates.com

Next to children, the most popular photography subjects are pets. Clicking perfect pictures of your pet would be possible through these tips. Good pictures are achievable by using practically any lens, however waste of use comes by using a long range telephoto lens of 80 to 200mm size.

When using a telephoto lens it is possible to stand at a distance far away that the pet does not scare off. Natural poses are possible only when a pet is not aware of the photography. Getting a good picture of a pet is possible by going down to his level. Since most of the pets are smaller than us we would have to get down on our hands and knees to get a good picture. A great picture is possible only if we have the pet look straight into the lens.

The only way to click your pet is if you are quick and ready. For being ready, one must pre-focus on the animal and pre-set the exposure. One should not reset the focus or the metering of the picture.

Proper exposure is easy for most pet photographs. This is easy to achieve by using the camera on auto mode or using a light meter to set the exposure. White animals or very dark ones need to be clicked by using bracketing.

After taking the meter reading, open up one or two f stops for clicking a white pet. The f number needs to be closed a few stops to capture the dark color of the pet when clicking a darker pet.

It is simple to find where the subject needs to be focused considering the importance of pre focusing. The pet?s body can be out of focus and not draw attention as long as his eye is in focus. An appealing picture is ensured when we focus the eye.

If focusing on a dark eye surrounded by dark fur, focus on the highlights in the eye. You can do this by turning on a light in the room or turning the pet to face the sun outside. The background plays an important role in the composition of a good pet photo. Try keeping your pet in front of a plain background. Using a less cluttered background helps get a picture with the pet standing out.

It is a good idea to have a friend around as you click your pet. Your friend can keep the animal?s attention when you take the picture. This method can be used to click a pet that is curious about what you are doing. Using these tips would result in perfect pictures of your pet, just remember to be patient.

Being ready and quick is important to click a picture of your pet. Having the focus already set on the pet and the exposure already set is the only way to be ready. One should not reset the focus or the metering of the picture.
