Azamara is the boutique luxury line within the Royal Caribbean Group. It consists of only two ships: Journey and Quest, each a 694 passenger luxury cruise ship. Azamara derived its name from the Romance languages. ?Az? as in ?azure? represents blue while ?mar? represents sea. The name was also inspired by a star, Acamar. In Classical times, the star Acamar was the most southern bright star that could be seen from the latitude of Greece. Azamara sees their cruise ships, quite rightly, as a star on the blue sea.
This past month, DiscountCruises.ca Media and Communications Manager Allison Wallace set out on an adventure to see Italy with five of her friends. Having only been aboard larger cruise ships in the past, this was her first time aboard a smaller ship and certainly not her last:
This past month, five of us set out on an adventure to see Italy and celebrate a milestone birthday. Each of us had been on a number of cruises before and had enjoyed the cruising experience in the past. A common thread running through each of our cruises was that they were aboard large ships; the 3,000+ passenger variety. We enjoyed the mega-ships and all they had to offer, but what would a small ship experience be like? We decided to give it a try and after a pretty thorough search of cruise lines and destinations we settled on the Azamara Journey and their one week cruise through Italy, Greece and Croatia.
Boarding could not have been easier. When we arrived we were greeted by the very cheerful Azamara staff who smiled and welcomed us and helped us with our bags and pointed us to the check-in counters. They were well staffed so there were no line ups and the whole process was at most 10 minutes. As we checked in, the feeling of excitement grew; you could just tell this was going to be a special experience.
