Hospitalized Charlie Sheen Speaks Out: 'Story Overblown' and 'Overplayed' (ContributorNetwork)

Two and a Half Men star Charlie Sheen is safely back home in Los Angeles after what seems to have been a pretty wild stay in New York, apparently visiting with ex-wife Denise Richards and their two children and letting off steam before shooting a small part for a film he's doing and going back to the set of his hit CBS sitcom. Radar Online reached out to the actor to get his reaction to the story, one which places him in a drunken rampage that resulted in thousands of dollars worth of damage to his hotel room, a confrontation with New York City's Finest, and a trip to the hospital for a psychiatric evaluation. Charlie Sheen obligingly texted the celebrity gossip website a reply.

RadarOnline.com's Senior Executive Editor Dylan Howard asked in what condition the Two and a Half Men actor was in subsequent to his release from the hospital. Sheen replied, "Oh my man, I'm fine.

"The story is totally overblown and overplayed as far as the reality of the scenario," he added.

And the story very well might be, but then again...

For two days the actor's latest exploits became headline news again, just months after spending major time in the tabloids for a "preventive" rehab stint he entered into after his very much-publicized altercation and allegedly abusive Christmas holiday in Colorado with then-wife Brooke Mueller. Still on probation from his conviction from a plea bargained misdemeanor assault in August (down from felony menacing and third-degree assault and criminal mischief) for that incident, Sheen was scheduled to return to shooting Two and a Half Men by week's end when he went to New York.

The New York Post reported that Charlie Sheen was taken to New York Hospital at 2:30 a.m.. They also reported that a frantic Denise Richards, Sheen's ex-wife, who had an adjoining room with their two children, had phoned the hotel front desk for them to call the police. Sheen, who was said to be intoxicated, had apparently went berserk after finding that his wallet was missing. The Post reported that Sheen met police totally naked. His hotel room was destroyed. An escort who had accompanied him upstairs was reportedly cowering in fear in the bathroom.

According to the Post, Sheen told the police everything. Since he had an elevated heart rate, he was sent to the hospital. A source told the Post that the actor was so out of sorts, police had to help him button his shirt.

Sheen's manager said later said in a statement, "Charlie had an allergic reaction to some medication."

Denise Richards, appearing on HLN's "The Joy Behar Show," told the host that she knew what happened but would keep her silence, allowing Sheen to tell the story if he wanted and hoping to shield their children from the drama. Her generosity is a sign that the couple are getting along far better than when they divorced.

The hotel, The Plaza, is not looking to press charges. They just want the damages taken care of. TMZ reported that a rep for Charlie Sheen has already contacted the posh New York hotel and agreed to take care of the damages, which are said to be at least $7,000.

Charlie Sheen was not arrested, nor are any charges expected from the incident. A report from TMZ notes that he's ready to "move on."

Sheen is the highest-paid actor on American television, receiving a reported $2 million per episode of the hit sitcom Two and a Half Men, which remains a Top 10 Nielsen draw despite all of Sheen's antics off set.
