Photographer Nan Goldin's Fire Leap exhibition at the Sprovieri Gallery London was part of the inauguration of the new Sprovieri Gallery Space at 23 Heddon Street in London.
Goldin often brings her own life and upbringing into her art. Fire Leap follows in the vein of her other work, photographed in available light and intricately woven from the fabric of Goldin's life. The show includes rarely seen images of children from 1978 until the present, and the photos are both poignant and distressing.
Born in Washington D.C., Goldin was raised in Boston and later graduated from the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston/Tufts University. Her first solo show was a collection of images looking at gay and transsexual communities within Boston. After her graduation, she moved to New York City, where she documented the music and drug filled lifestyle that formed her most famous work, The Ballad of Sexual Dependency.
