Alliant Energy requests 1.9% Wisconsin rate increase in 2014

Wisconsin Power & Light Co. of Madison is requesting an electricity rate increase for 2014.

Alliant Energy Corp.'s Wisconsin utility, Wisconsin Power & Light Co. of Madison, has filed for a 1.9 percent increase in retail electric rates in 2014 to offset higher electric fuel costs next year.

The rate increase, filed with the Public Service Commission of Wisconsin, will result in an increase of $1.14 a month for a typical residential customer. The increase also includes savings from 2012, when actual fuel costs came in lower than expected. Without the savings, the 2014 increase would have likely topped 3 percent, Madison-based Alliant Energy said.

Alliant Energy's annual electric fuel cost plan filing is expected to receive PSC approval by the end of this year. It would become effective Jan. 1, 2014, and would be in place until the end of 2014.
